Enid Literacy Council provides learning materials and tutoring services to meet the needs of adults who wish to improve their academic and communication skills. Recently, one of their computers has become inoperable. Our donation will be used toward the purchase of a new computer and software to be used for the many Asian and Mexican-American students who are currently enrolled in their program, English as a Second Language. Enid Public Library has been conducting a baby and toddler story time for the last year. The last day of each month they put out age appropriate activities for the participating children. These activities are designed to foster hand-eye coordination as well as fine motor development in small children. Our funds will be used to purchase educational toys and activities that promote growth and development for participating Enid toddlers. Enid Public School Foundation provides grants to applying teachers twice a year so that they can implement innovative and exciting projects and secure much needed materials for their schools. Every dollar raised and donated to this organization through 2005 will be matched by an anonymous and generous group of Enid community leaders. This year the Enid Public School Foundation was able to give $25,000 for grants to applying teachers, but this amount only funded one-third of their requests. Our funds will be matched and double the money available to help promote academic excellence for Enid school children. Humanitarian School of Martial Arts is a community based Martial Arts program geared to offer low cost training to at-risk-children, kindergarten through twelfth grades. It is their goal to reach out to at-risk-youth in the local Enid community and make a difference in the quality of life that they have. They teach their students that they should like and respect themselves and that they are worthy of the respect of others. Our donation will assist with the purchase of "puzzle mats" to cover the floor and make the facility a safer place to train. It will also allow the school to conduct tournaments which positively recognizes the students for their hard work and commitment to improving the quality of their lives. Salvation Army Summer Day Camp is for children ages five to twelve and serves the poor and working poor of Enid who cannot afford the regular price of daycare for their children. This camp runs throughout the summer and provides an opportunity for underprivileged children to enjoy an entire summer of fun in a wholesome Christian environment. The children participate in field trips, sporting events, educational activities and ministry. Our funds will be used to provide scholarships for six underprivileged children to attend this camp. Sandra Beasley Independent Living Center is designed to help persons with disabilities achieve their full potential, live independently, contribute their talents and creativity to expand their living options, and secure their basic rights. Our funds will be used toward the installation of a new dishwasher, dining table and chairs, and floor covering for their kitchen. This donation will allow those with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the meal they created in a social environment designed to instill encouragement and confidence in their capabilities. Sparrow Quilt Group is a quilting organization affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Enid. The primary mission of the group is to use quilting to minister to the needs of the less fortunate. By making and distributing quilts to people who may find their life in crisis or who are suffering hardships, the group communicates and spreads the warmth of God's love. Our funds will be used to purchase the materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for this group to make enough quilts to warm each bed at Enid's YWCA Women and Children's Crisis Center. St. Mary's Regional Medical Center Volunteers assist people who arrive at the hospital experiencing health problems by providing them rides from their vehicles to the hospital or emergency room entrance. What a great assistance to a pregnant mother, a chemotherapy patient, the elderly, or just someone arriving without the support of friends or family. This free transportation is provided five days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Our funds will be used for the purchase of additional carts to better meet the needs of those patients frequenting St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.
